    Common question - Will my Replaytv still work after the switch to digital in 2009?

    The answer is YES!

    All Replaytv's are in the same category as old TV's, I.E. they are designed to receive and output analog only. The FCC has mandated digital to analog converter boxes be made available so older (analog) TV's can continue to produce a picture from digital signals for quite some time. CableTV and Satellite companies will provide the equipment needed, if any, for your analog equipment to continue to function. Over the air signal reception is effected the greatest by the switch over.

    My understanding is cable TV systems after the change over in 2009 will send a signal that is: still analog and so it can continue to be tuned by your Replaytv using the built in tuner, is a mixture of analog and digital and so it can be tuned directly or must use a cable box to change the signal going out to the TV and Replaytv, or will be completely digital and so a cable box must be used to tune the digital signal and then change the output to analog for older TV's and Replaytv's to  record/view it. This last method simply requires we connect the cable box into the replay setup just as we always did and the Replay will work normally. 
     
    Satellite reception is already digital and so little changes will happen here, except the satellite box you use must still have analog out for your older TV and Replaytv to view/record the signal.

    Over the air signals received using an antenna will require a converter box to tune the channel and then change the output to analog in order for older TV's and Replaytv's to view/record the signal.  I imagine the converter box will be remote controllable, but I can't say whether your Replaytv can control it using one of its current cable box or satellite box  IR codes.
